This is a Design-Build Project, renovating a 2-storey heritage council building to its earlier configuration, to preserve and give new life to a historically significant landmark. A double-height council room with a viewing mezzanine are being reinstated for community and council use. The project involves significant improvements to the envelope for thermal performance, and improved mechanical equipment efficiency.
The building officially opened in 1882 and was a place to discuss the interests of the First Nation, including the Indian Act. In this building, significant decisions were made impacting the lives of the people of the First Nation.
The Council House is centrally located within the Mississauga’s of the New Credit’s territory. As such, the building has gathered the community for over a century, hosting events, meetings, and cultural gatherings which embody the values of the First Nation. Through council meetings and community celebrations, this venue has fostered conversation, decision-making and unity.
After a hiatus in functioning as the site for council meeting, this historic Council House will be restored and reopened to host council meetings, cultural events, and community gatherings once more.
