We are pretty stoked by our simple design that has become reality in the first @imbyhomes build in the North End of Hamilton. This home cost $90k in materials and around $60k in labour, for a total of $150k. Some of the labour and materials were donated. The goal of IMBY is to build backyard homes like this all over the city to create affordable rental options. This home will rent for $1000/mo, at least $500 less than market rent.
What IMBY needs is BUILDERS who would be willing to build this simple home for around $60k. With the right partners, they will’s be able to build these in neighborhoods all across the city and be a real part of the housing solution.
Take a tour of our newest affordable housing development in Kitchener, for @indwell.ca. What began as a redundant church, right beside a hospital, has become 43 supportive apartments. The majority of the new tenants are coming from homelessness. The former congregation of St. Marks’s prayers have been answered, as their former church home has now become hope and homes for many.
We have several conversion projects underway at the moment, preserving Ontario’s heritage and helping solve the housing crisis. #hopeandhomes #passivehouse #adaptivereuse #kitchener #solutionsarepossible #practiceresurrection ...

The much-needed renovation to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at McMaster University Medical Centre is based on health promoting principles to provide a healing and comforting environment for the children undergoing this vital treatment and their accompanying family members. The end result is a product of active participation with care givers and end users through the design process.
The 400sqm space was renovated in phases to minimize disruption in services provided by the clinic.
The design flow is based on providing a more efficient use of space and a conducive environment for treatment. Spaces are subtlety divided with age-appropriate activities and provide each group of children their own area for interaction with their peers while they await treatment. The flexibility in design promotes interaction, while still respecting an individuals need of privacy. Comfort and involvement of the accompanying family members has also been addressed. The vibrant color scheme is a product of discussion with all the stakeholders including the patients, and the therapeutic comfort they offer. 🌈
