The historic Modernist-style building was the former headquarters for Kennametal Tools and Manufacturing, designed by Hamilton architect W. Bruce Riddell and built in 1946. The purpose of this project is to salvage the Kennametal Building acquired by Budget Demolition and convert it into their new office building and salvaged-items retail warehouse. The project involve maintaining much of the original structure and aesthetics. Improvements included replacing a majority of the windows, a new canopy front entry, and a new staff café area.
The office space portion was transformed into a modern/industrial workspace, including open and private offices, meeting rooms with exposed brick, and a big kitchen/lounge area for staff. The warehouse is an expansive open space featuring the beautifully restored roof wood trusses and large industrial sized windows – showcasing BD Salvage’s extensive array of reclaimed architectural items.
