The new Arrowsmith YMCA Child Care in Stoney Creek is a recently developed licensed child care centre operated by the YMCA of Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford. The facility—a renovated office building—is located at 26 Arrowsmith Road near the Confederation GO Station. The centre officially opened in 2026 as part of a broader regional expansion of YMCA early-years services.
Key details of the facility include:
-Purpose-built licensed child care centre serving Hamilton East–Stoney Creek families
-Located along a transit corridor with access to Confederation GO and local bus routes,
-Designed around the YMCA “Playing to Learn” early childhood curriculum
-Includes fenced outdoor play areas and indoor sensory, dramatic-play, and early-learning spaces
The project was funded through a partnership involving the Ontario Ministry of Education, the Government of Canada through the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Infrastructure Agreement, and the City of Hamilton. The timelines from concept to construction completion were extremely tight, with just over 6 months total to completion.
The centre was created to expand affordable licensed child care capacity in Hamilton and support population growth in the east-end/Stoney Creek area. This is vital for local families as we aim to create increased access to child care spaces, support for working families, and create inclusive early-learning environments.
Project delivery was through a Construction Management Contract with Schilthuis Construction, who completed the renovation in a very short four-month window.
