We create buildings people love.
At Invizij Architects, imaginative design emerges from a grounded, hands-on approach to meeting real-world challenges. We respond to our clients’ needs while uplifting buildings beyond the ordinary. We create sustainable buildings and communities that people love.
Invizij was created in 2012 and quickly grew to become a respected, award-winning firm. We aim to not only take care of our clients’ needs, but accept the growing responsibility we have as designers to help create sustainable communities where everyone can flourish. Our office is located in downtown Hamilton and we currently have the resources of fourteen professionals, including four Registered Architects and two LEED APs.
Awards

What an honour! The council house restoration for the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation was just awarded a Governor’s award from the @nationaltrustca . Such an honour to be the architects for this wonderful project. We were able to focus on the cultural heritage of this building to its original governance use. Major upgrades to the building envelope included interior insulation, removing the crawlspace, and resolving moisture issues so it will continue to be a home for the council for the next 100 years.

Such a special day of celebration at the reopening of the Mississaugas of the Credit council house. We were honoured to be the architects that helped bring this historic building back to its original intent as a place of governance, with Just Working Construction leading the restoration and making it a reality. A big thanks to Ashley, Arland, Craig, Susan, Chief Claire Sault and the rest of Council. #migwetch to everyone!
The most special element is the table, which includes resin in the middle with sand from the MCFN’s territory including Toronto Island, medicine plants, and rocks from the Credit River.
Their first council meeting in the new space is happening this coming Tuesday.
Love this video of our second Hamilton ADU build with local charity IMBY. For this two storey, 2 bedroom backyard home they are working with Turkstra Lumber on panelized construction to speed up the process. This is affordable housing in action. Learn more about their model at @imbyhomes!

Very special day today. We were invited to the Ontario legislature to receive an OAA award, one of this year’s nine Queens Park picks. Big thanks to MPP Ernie Hardeman for nominating our @indwell.ca Harvey Woods Lofts, now home to 80 individuals in Woodstock, ON. Emma was joined by Graham, Justin and tenant Carol from Indwell to celebrate this honour. At the event were many MPPs and staff, other architects, folks from the OAA, and our hero Mike Schreiner. 💚

We were thrilled to have @indwell.ca’s St. Mark’s Place be awarded the Paul Oberman Award for Adaptive Reuse: large building at the @arconserv event tonight in the Distillery District! There were so many other great projects nominated, this is a real honour.
Unfortunately, Indwell had their Hope and Homes event in Kitchener the same night, but Emma and our heritage consultant @hobsonheritage were happy to accept the award on the team’s behalf.
Congratulations to: Indwell, Nith Valley Construction, Megan Hobson (heritage consultant), Kalos Engineering, CK Engineering, Zon Engineering, @seferiandesigngroup, @landwise.team, and BELi (Building Envelope Lab inc). And thank you to the former congregation of St. Marks Lutheran Church for keeping the building in such great shape, and for choosing Indwell to create much-needed supportive housing!
Take a peek at the @indwell.ca Cornerstone Suites in the Streetsville neighbourhood of Mississauga. Includes 40 units of supportive housing as an infill between two heritage homes. We were proud to be the architects for this project, bringing together old and new.

We were honoured to celebrate the grand opening of Sacajawea’s newest building, NIH DAWIN’NAA, today. There was a Haudenosaunee thanksgiving, cedar tree planting, tours, laughter and food!
What was originally a box factory, then a faux pearl factory, and eventually a performing arts centre is now 15 homes for indigenous folks. There is also a duplex next door with two more units.
We were the architects of both buildings, along with @smoke_architecture_inc. @landwise.team were the planners through the rezoning and Tim Welch Consulting guided the project through the funding hoops. Our consultant team included Kalos Engineering, CK Engineering, and BELi for the masonry testing. And Schilthuis Construction who led the construction crews.
The building was designed to be 40% more energy efficient than code, which was improved even more during construction when we pulled the plug on fossil fuels and changed to a heat pump HWH. And it was all done (after zoning) in less than two years.
But everyone’s favourite part of the building are the beautiful woodland-inspired art panels, designed by Naomi @blacktulipdesigns. 🖤❤️ 💛 🤍 A big thank you to Melanee and Miranda for their commitment to creating housing for people who need it. We are so happy to be working on the next two projects with you now as well (Gage N. and Dundurn S.)
