This adaptive reuse project is transforming a 3-storey + basement heritage school building in St. Thomas.

Built in the late 1800s and closed in 2011, the former elementary school is being converted into permanent housing for tenants with low support needs. The heritage red brick building will be retrofitted to include 36 units, while a new 4-storey addition will provide 42 additional units along with ground-floor common spaces and offices.

The new addition’s design will complement the existing building with matching brick cladding and modern accents, such as metal paneling on the upper floors. Windows and doors in the heritage structure will be upgraded to meet Passive House standards, while the building elevations will remain intact. Proposed landscaping will introduce inviting outdoor amenity spaces for residents, enhancing community well-being.
