Chedoke House (Balfour House) Office Conversion

Celebrating some good news about our @indwell.ca Health Services Building Apartments project. We are Heritage Permit approved! And with Loftin Management awarded the construction contract, renovations are now underway!

Rehabilitation of the Health Services Building will bring 96 supportive housing units to the Soho neighbourhod. The redevelopment will adhere to Passive House standards, featuring triple-glazed heritage replica windows and restoring the masonry façade and other historic elements.

Built in 1921 and designed by Watt & Blackwell, this collegiate Neoclassical building is one of the three remaining structures from the former Victoria Hospital campus. It plays a key role in preserving the historical narrative of medical services in the area and received heritage designation in 2022.

A big thank you to our heritage consultant, @hobson_heritage , Heritage Planner in London Michael Greguol, and our architects Natalia and Camilo, who poured their energy and expertise into the process.

An exciting update to share! Construction is about to begin on Victoria Park Community Homes Stonechurch Apartments. This will be a significant project for the City of Hamilton, providing much needed homes on the Hamilton mountain. We are thrilled to be working with Flourish Development Group, @zehrgroup Zehr Construction Inc. and @vicparkch on this new building in an existing townhouse community.

A bit of background: In 2024, Victoria Park Community Homes engaged Invzij Architects to design a new 107-unit, eight-storey residential building to help address the growing demand for affordable housing in Hamilton. Located at the corner of Stone Church East and Redmond on the central Hamilton Mountain, the development will enliven the streetscape, transforming the site of one block of eight existing townhomes into a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, tailored for small families and seniors who wish to age in place.

The building is designed with a focus on energy efficiency, meeting Passive House US (PHIUS) standards for both the building envelope and mechanical systems. ...

The photos that follow show more of this Design-Build project! Invizij had the opportunity to reinstate a double-height council chamber with a viewing mezzanine, creating a renewed gathering space for both council and community use. The original tall arched windows bring back the original character of the building. Significant upgrades to the building envelope improve thermal performance, while modernized mechanical systems enhance overall energy efficiency.

Originally opened in 1882, the building serves as an important place where matters concerning the interests of the First Nation--including discussions related to the Indian Act--are addressed. Many significant decisions impacting the lives of community members are made within its walls.

Located at the centre of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation’s territory, the Council House has long been a focal point for community life. For over a century, it has hosted council meetings, cultural events, and gatherings that embody the values and traditions of the Nation, fostering dialogue, leadership, and unity.

Following a period of closure, the restored Council House is now reopened and once again serves as a vital venue for council meetings, cultural events, and community gatherings. ...

The Invizij team was excited to lead an interactive Virtual Reality (VR) demonstration at @indwell.ca`s Lakeshore Lofts in Mississauga today! Tenants had the opportunity to try our VR headsets to “tour” the units of another Invizij project: Indwell’s Creekside Apartments in Clarkson Village.

The 51-unit, four-storey building will provide permanent affordable housing in a community that urgently needs it. With several Lakeshore Lofts tenants preparing to move into the new building, VR technology offered an engaging and accessible way to explore their future homes and feel more confident about the transition.
