We were in Woodstock today and got to make a quick stop at @indwell.ca’s Harvey Woods Lofts. The first phase renovation to the old factory was completed nine years ago, with the addition a couple years later. It is still a beautiful building, with lovely people living there, creating raised bed gardens and building restorative community.
Sacajawea’s Steven St. Apartments are nearing completion and the beautiful artwork by indigenous beadwork artist Naomi Smith @blacktulipdesigns has been installed on the spandrels. I stopped by at golden hour yesterday to take a peek at the progress. We love how it is all coming together!
In total, there are 15 apartments in the former Pearl Co. factory, with community space in the basement. And there is also an adjacent new duplex, in blue. There 17 homes, a mix of one bedroom and two bedroom, will provide much needed affordable housing. The units are designed to passive house and both buildings will not use fossil fuels! Low carbon just makes sense for Sacajawea and the tenants they will be supporting.
The design of the project was shared with Invizij and @smoke_architecture_inc. Rezoning was by @landwise.team, housing consulting by TWC. Stay tuned for an announcement of the grand opening in the coming weeks!

We were able to share our latest project with a bus load of architects as part of the @oaarchitects conference. 268 Oakdale in St. Catharines was just granted partial occupancy this week. It’s hard to believe the apartments are only 340 ft2, and that the lot is only 13m wide. It took close work with the municipality to make this orphanage site feasible for housing.
We are proud to be the architects of these 28 new homes which are a developer driven response to the housing crisis. With a mix of affordable and market units, and a building design that is net zero ready, we truly need more of these in every community.

St. Marks Place in Kitchener is our latest affordable & supportive housing project with @indwell.ca. We were able to maintain the existing sanctuary as common space, add a third floor that blends in with the original church, and as a result create 43 new homes for those that need it most. Powered by solar panels and heat pumps, the
