Indwell Cornerstone Suites Redevelopment

It was great to see a render of our Sacajawea 204 Gage Supportive Housing project featured in The Hamilton Spectator this past weekend. In the article, Teviah Moro highlights why many local non-profits are urging City Council to recommit to annual funding for supportive and affordable housing.

As noted in the piece, the City has committed $10.3 million annually in the 2024, 2025, and 2026 budgets for supportive housing—funding that has been allocated to 11 projects delivering roughly 500 units across the city.

This work builds on the momentum of Hamilton Is Home, the alliance launched in 2020 by @indwell.ca , YWCA, Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing, Good Shepherd, Victoria Park Community Homes, ( @vicparkch ) East Hamilton (Kiwanis) Non-Profit Homes, and CityHousing, with an initial goal of delivering 3,000 affordable homes.

Roof icicles are a very visible sign of roof heat loss and thermal bridging. This Kirkendall #passivehouse with 8 inches of exterior insulation on the sloped roof showcases this perfectly, compared to the 100+ year old house across the street.

External insulation with no thermal bridging is good building science, and also common sense! ...

We’re excited to share some great news—three members of our team have been promoted into new roles:

• Camilo Avendano is now an Architectural Technologist and our BIM Manager.
• Ted Borutta has transitioned into the role of Contract Administrator.
• Bryce Stonehouse has also moved into the role of Contract Administrator.

We’re incredibly proud of the growth and development of our team. Camilo, Ted, and Bryce are each valued contributors, and these new roles reflect both their strengths and the increasing responsibility they’ve taken on.

With more than a dozen major projects currently under construction, Ted and Bryce play a critical role in leading projects through to successful completion.

Camilo he has led the Revit model and documents for several larger projects recently and has the expertise & passion to lead our team in this important BIM Manager role.

Site visit yesterday to one of the @vicparkch sites that is being retrofitted and decarbonized. The Braeburn building at 1 Hamilton St. in Waterdown has a blanket of exterior insulation and BIPV solar panels by @mitrex_solar that is nearly complete on the 1960’s era apartment building. And a new colour palette.

The 100-unit building is installing 7,365 square feet of outside solar panels is calculated to translate into 50 megawatt hours. ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ The cladding is among a suite of upgrades, including heat pumps, triple-pane windows and energy-recovery ventilators. Similar retrofits are underway at their building at 831 Queenston in Stoney Creek.
