We are excited to advance the work of @indwell.ca in creating supportive affordable housing on city-owned properties at 1022-1030 Waterdown Road in Aldershot. Great news in The Hamilton Spectator today regarding the reopening of Eastwood Arena!

Earlier this year, our firm put together site concepts to explore how affordable housing could be integrated alongside a new arena facility on the property. We see huge potential here for a multi-use community asset that serves the neighbourhood on multiple fronts.

We were heartened to participate in the groundbreaking celebration for 107 permanently affordable homes for seniors and others to age in place as part of Victoria Park Community Homes. The building is coming out of the ground at the corner of Stonechurch & Redmond on the Hamilton mountain, part of the Lacoma Court community where an 8 unit building once stood.

The building will have 20% accessible units, a large common room with a roof terrace, and will be 50% more energy efficient than a building built to code. That will make a difference for tenants expenses and the planet.

Bringing complex, deeply affordable housing from the drawing board to construction requires incredible partners—major thanks to the City of Hamilton and CMHC + Build Canada Homes for investing in this vision. Vic Park is a dream to work with, as are our design partners - see below.

Congratulations to the VPCH team, with special thanks to retiring CEO Lori-Anne Gagne for her decades of impact, and a big welcome to incoming CEO Matt Bowen.

Very exciting to see the work of @nithvalleyconstruction in progress, as construction nears completion on @indwell.ca `s Acorn Flats in Hamilton!

We are blown away yet again by Dave Povao`s drone photos of this special supportive housing project. We love the clean lines and of the building`s design, and the way colour blocking adds visual interest to the neighbourhood`s built environment.

Acorn Flats is intended for family housing with two and three-bedroom units. It includes eight total pods for 23 apartments and one common room. Each stair in the building is used to directly access two pods, or six apartments, with a common exterior walkway to connect stairs as a secondary egress - a design intended to create a strong connection to the outdoors. 🌿🌳🏢 ...

On Friday, we hosted our first-ever Invizij Client Appreciation Day at Corktown Park, right across from the office. From the BBQ to the softball tournament (and custom Invizij caps!), it was an awesome afternoon celebrating the strong relationships and incredible projects we build together.

Today, Danielle, Emma, Graham, and David (from Flourish) spent the day stripping layers of paint off the original vestibule doors at @indwell.ca’s Hilda Stuart Lofts (formerly the War Memorial Children’s Hospital) in London, ON.

Sharing a few fresh photos of lovely Coves Landing, a recent @indwell.ca project that involved the interior renovation of a former long-term care facility. The new design brings 50 units of affordable housing (a mix of studio and one bedroom apartments) to London Ontario. Residents can enjoy a safe and comfortable living environment with a fully functioning large commercial kitchen to accommodate housing supports, along with a lounge and common room for social engagement. Staff offices for Indwell are also located on-site, ensuring the availability of ongoing support for residents.

The name `Coves Landing` refers to a group of nearby oxbow ponds, which the city of London designated as an Environmentally Significant Area (ESA) due to its high species diversity. Artwork inside the building and on its window spandrels celebrates this unique context, showcasing local flora and fauna.

This project was possible because of a partnership with four local London developers and reflects a commitment to creating accessible, affordable housing within the community! ...
